The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter was the first science fiction story, written in Japan in the 10th century. The story line goes a bit like this:

1) Moon Princess flees moon due to a space war
2) Moon Princess misses moon and wants to go back to her people
3) Earth Prince falls in love with Moon Princess
4) Moon Princess goes back to the moon
